A US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Number is mandatory for business entities operating vehicles greater than 10,000 pounds in 39 US states. A MC Number, also known as a Motor Carrier Number, is a unique identifier assigned to commercial motor vehicles that transport cargo crossing over state lines.
Trux requires haulers performing work on the Trux platform in states who require a USDOT number to submit and maintain a valid USDOT number.
You can add/update your number in Trux Drive following the steps outlined below.

You can update your USDOT number in Trux Drive in just a few taps.
- From the Home screen, tap Company.
- Tap the Details tab.
- Scroll down and tap EDIT.
- Enter your USDOT Number and tap SAVE.
And that's it! You have just entered/updated your profile with your USDOT Number. NOTE: If you transport cargo across state lines and therefore are required to obtain an MC Number, Trux will be able to retrieve that number from the FMCSA system when your USDOT number is validated according to the process described below. So you do not need to provide us with your MC Number separately.
How Trux Verifies USDOT Numbers
Trux automatically checks the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) database weekly (every Sunday) to retrieve the status of each hauler (NOTE: Trux does not handle the activation or renewal of haulers' USDOTs). Haulers are responsible for submitting the required documents to the FMCSA agency for activation or renewal. Once a USDOT is activated in the FMCSA database, our system will pick up the updated information and update the hauler’s status accordingly.
Why does Trux need my USDOT number?
Failure to provide to Trux with your USDOT Number may affect your ongoing use of the Trux Platform.
- Haulers' ongoing use of Trux requires an active and valid USDOT Number
- All users on Trux must have an USDOT Number
- In accordance with Trux's Terms and Conditions of Use, Trux may validate information provide by the Hauler to Trux, specifically, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Safety and Fitness Electronic Records (SAFER) System.
- A Hauler's failure to provide to Trux an active and valid USDOT Number, may affect a Hauler's ongoing use of the Trux Platform
